Storage and preservation tips and recommendations:

It is crucial to follow certain guidelines to maintain its quality and prevent losses.

Ideal storage conditions

• Temperature: It is recommended to store between 0°C and 4°C to extend its shelf life. Unlike other onions, the Grano de Oro can withstand lower temperatures without risk of deterioration.
• Relative Humidity: It should be maintained within a range of 60% to 70%. Excess humidity can lead to premature sprouting, while too dry an environment can cause weight loss and texture deterioration.
• Ventilation: Proper air circulation is essential to avoid the buildup of gases that accelerate aging. Forced ventilation systems are recommended for large warehouses.
• Light Protection: Although the Grano de Oro onion is more resistant to sprouting than other onions, prolonged exposure to light can stimulate it. Storing in dark spaces or with controlled lighting helps prevent this.

Preservation

• Dry Storage: The Grano de Oro onion does not require refrigeration under normal conditions but must be kept in a dry and ventilated environment.
• Avoid excessive stacking: Although it has a sturdy skin, too much weight can cause mechanical damage, reducing its shelf life. It is recommended to use stackable, ventilated boxes.

• Import months: April and may.
• Months when the sweet onion is available: All year round.
• Harvest months in Spain: June, july, august, september and october.

For bulk onions in sacks:

The minimum order will be one full pallet. Due to automatic palletizing, it is not possible to combine different sack references on the same pallet.

The only valid pallet will be the large pallet (100×120). Euro pallets (80×120) cannot be used as they are too unstable during transport.

For bulk onions in boxes, packed in nets and tubes:

The minimum order for boxes will be half a pallet. Two half pallets can be combined by stacking one on top of the other with an intermediate pallet, forming a single transport pallet.
